Extra protection for endangered plants given

DUBAI // Wild plants are to be given more protection under a new decision issued by the Minister of Environment and Water, reported state new agency Wam.

Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad issued Decision No 224 of 2015 as part of the ministry’s ongoing policy on conservation of biodiversity and the protection of endangered species in the UAE. Local authorities are allowed to issue licences to transfer plant species and their derivatives.

Consideration must be given to put them in a similar environment and prevent any risk to human health or safety, as well as avoiding damage during the implementation of infrastructure projects.

The announcement is in line with the Government’s 2021 Vision.
