Residents in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain woke to loud claps of thunder on Thursday as intense rain showers hit the UAE overnight.
A video shared by the Storm Centre showed rain falling above Dubai's Global Village, as lightning struck in the background.
Another image posted by an account follower pictured a massive lightning storm that hit Al Ain city at 2am.
National Centre of Meteorology satellites at 6.30am pictured intense banks of rain that had moved south towards Al Ain and Fujairah.
The UAE is experiencing a spell of unsettled weather, which began earlier in the week with heavy showers and hail in Sharjah and Fujairah. Since then many parts of the country have been affected.
NCM forecasters said more is in store due to a weather system sweeping in from the Red Sea and southern Iran, which will be accompanied by humid winds.
On Thursday it will be partly cloudy with a chance of rain in the east by the afternoon. Areas in the west and south are also at risk of showers.
Temperatures will reach 40°C in Abu Dhabi and 37°C in Dubai.
Light to moderate winds will freshen at times, kicking up dust clouds. The weather on Friday will be similar, with a chance of rain over scattered areas, especially in the west and south, extending over some parts of the coast and the islands, said NCM. It may also be dusty.
Temperatures will reach highs of 40°C in many areas, including Abu Dhabi city, Fujairah in the north and the southern half of the country. The mercury will hit 38°C in Dubai.
On Saturday there will be a chance of rain over scattered areas. Temperatures will fall on the coast to the mid-30s.
Sunday will be fair to partly cloudy and dusty at times. Temperatures will reach highs of 36°C in Abu Dhabi and 35°C in Dubai.
