Emiratis earn top police roles in Sharjah

SHARJAH // Only Emiratis have been appointed to leadership roles in Sharjah Police as part of the Emiratisation process.

Maj Gen Humaid Al Hudaidi, commander in chief of the force, addressed the Sharjah Consultative Council on Thursday in a session that lasted five hours.

Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said there were enough Emiratis with good expertise and training that the police could now fill all the main leadership offices in the emirate.

He said the police administration was undertaking several security and safety projects, among them a forensic laboratory.

Work has also started on the first phase of the Dh400 million prison in Al Ramtha, set be completed in three years and able to house 6,000 inmates.

Council member Humaid Obaid Al Shamsi asked why police were reducing the number of staff. Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said the Ministry of Interior had made extensive studies on the needs of the departments.

Adnan Hamad Al Hammadi, another member, asked why security and traffic cameras were taking photos of women contrary to the emirate's culture of preserving the privacy of women.

Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said if concerns were raised the department would find a solution.

Saeed Mohammed Al Jarwan asked Maj Gen Al Hudaidi when residents would be able to pay traffic fines online and was told a website was being introduced.
