Elderly Emirati in critical condition after gas stove explosion



RAS AL KHAIMAH // An elderly Emirati woman sustained severe burns when a gas stove exploded in the Jolan area of Ras Al Khaimah.

According to Al Ittihad, The National's Arabic sister publication, she was transported to Saqr Hospital for treatment where she was admitted to intensive care in a critical condition.

Dr Youssef Al Tayr, director of Saqr hospital, said that the women, in her eighties, was taken to the hospital at 7am with fourth degree burns to about 95 per cent of her body and she was put on assisted breathing.

He said that the burns affected the function of her vital organs and she is under close medical supervision.

A source at the Civil Defense Department in Ras Al Khaimah received a call from the woman’s family reporting the explosion.

It is believed that the explosion was caused by a gas leak from the kitchen stove.

The incident was referred to the police for investigation.
