New Emirati teachers appointed by Adec

ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi Education Council announced the appointment of 185 new Emirati teachers.

The council appointed five Emirati women for the post of school principal, and 16 assistant directors, to meet the needs of schools in leadership positions, according to Dr Khalid Al Abri, director of personnel management processes in the school sector at Adec.

Emirati teachers make up 52 per cent of the total number of teachers in Abu Dhabi government schools, marking an increase of about 5 per cent from the previous years, and 81 per cent in supervisory and leadership positions.

The total number of Emirati teachers in public schools is 7,100, of which 85 per cent are female. The total number of teachers, including citizens and foreigners, in Abu Dhabi is 14,000. Adec has contracted with 1,000 non-Emirati teachers this year to meet the needs of schools.

The authority intends to appoint 400 Emirati teachers during the current school year.
