DUBAI // More than 1,000 camels and their riders are expected to compete in the first camel marathon in Al Marmoum on December 3.
The event, organised to mark the 44th National Day, is open to Emiratis who are 18 and older and who are proficient in camel riding.
Prizes await the first 50 winners, including luxury vehicles for those who finish in the top three and cash prizes for the fourth to 50th places.
The race is being organised by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) in partnership with the Dubai Camel Racing Club.
The centre organises special events to preserve the cultural traditions of the UAE, and introduces ways to inspire citizens to breed and care for camels, said Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmook, chief executive of HHC.
