DUBAI // Dubai has promised it will have a lot more green spaces within 10 years.
The municipality yesterday announced it had planted 27 million plants last year, and plans to increase the city's parks and green spaces by four per cent.
Expansion of the city's six parks and 76 residential areas should give every resident the equivalent of 25 square metres of green space by 2020, up from the current 13.8, the state news agency, WAM, quoted it as saying.
Mohammed Hassan al Fardan, the head of promotion and recreation office at the municipality's public parks and horticulture department, said: "Our surroundings are highly important for all of us and make Dubai an attractive and pleasant city in which to live. For this reason, we are pushing ahead with our extensive plans."

Lt Gen Erik Petersen, deputy chief of programs, US Army, has argued it took a “three decade holiday” on modernising tanks.
“There clearly remains a significant armoured heavy ground manoeuvre threat in this world and maintaining a world class armoured force is absolutely vital,” the general said in London last week.
“We are developing next generation capabilities to compete with and deter adversaries to prevent opportunism or miscalculation, and, if necessary, defeat any foe decisively.”
