DUBAI // Police have reunited a mother and her nine-year-old daughter after a three year separation.
It is understood that the mother was deported after divorcing the girl’s father, leading to her visa being cancelled.
The unanamed mother, of Asian nationality, contacted Dubai Police after reading about the Victims Outreach Programme in a local newspaper.
She contacted Naif Police Station asking for help from programme officials upon her arrival to the UAE on a tourist visa for a week, in the hope of getting to see her daughter.
Once notified, Dubai Police were able to reunite the mother and daughter within 24 hours.
Programme officials responded to her cry for help and proceeded with investigations about the child’s father.
After multiple attempts to reunite the family, they were able to convince the father of the importance of reuniting mother and daughter.
The father then escorted his daughter to the police station where the mother and daughter were reunited in what Dubai Police described as a “very touching scene”.
The mother thanked Dubai Police for responding to her inquiry in such a short space of time and making her wish come true.
Maj Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the chief commander at the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, praised the humanitarian efforts that led police officers at Naif Police Station to reunite the two.
Col Youssef Al Adidi, head of the Naif Police, praised the efforts of the team and hailed the efforts made to promote social and humanitarian initiatives.
He said the programme had already helped many victims in social and family matters.
Previously, Naif Police had succeeded in reuniting a woman and her son after 17 years of separation.
Other achievements included helping a disabled individual and bringing him back to his family, answering the request of an elderly person who asked to have the lift in his residential building repaired by coordinating with the owner, returning 90 passports to their rightful owners and solving financial claims amounting to Dh335,398.
Col Youssef Al Adidi said that the station communicated with 7,980 victims (criminal or traffic) throughout 2013, compared with 9,545 in 2012 and 10,580 in 2011.
He described the decrease in the number of reports as notable and said the station achieved 99.9 per cent of its key performance targets last year compared with 99.8 per cent in 2012.
