Dubai Police notched up a jumbo-sized Guinness world record on Thursday after 77 policewomen pulled an Emirates airliner 100 meters.
The team of officers came together as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, an emirate-wide event aimed at encouraging residents to take more exercise.
The record-breaking effort was carried out in front of cheering supporters as well as Maj Gen Abdullah Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
The all-female squad managed to pull the 74 metre-long, 240 tonne Boeing 777 aircraft via a single yellow rope attached to the aircraft’s undercarriage.
Pravin Patil, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, presented a world record certificate to Maj Gen Al Marri after the event.
“Dubai Fitness Challenge has increased awareness about the importance of physical activity and helped hike up the number of people who exercise,” Maj Gen Al Marri said.
“The attractive approach of Dubai Fitness Challenge with numerous activities held in locations across the emirate has helped increase the number of participants.”
