Dubai Police have condemned the actions of two young men who jumped from the highest bridge on the Dubai Water Canal after a video of the pair appeared on social media.
The clip was picked up by police after it was widely circulated, and it shows a teen wearing a kandura jumping into the canal, followed by another teen in shorts amid the laughter of others who were recording the clip.
Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, ordered that legal procedures be taken against the daredevils and those who filmed and shared the video of the stunt.
According to reports, the group of men were later arrested.
Brig Abdullah Khadim Surour, director of Bur Dubai Police station, described the teens' behaviour as dangerous, posing a risk to their safety, and that the incident happened near a vital facility that is not dedicated for those sort of activities.
A team of criminal investigators are following up on the case and had been trying to locate the teens involved.
Mr Surour said young people sometimes act recklessly and urged parents to be closer to their sons and daughters, and to get to know their friends. He highlighted that the teenagers had been instigated in their act by another young man whose voice was clearly heard in the video urging them to jump.
