The higher tower of Dubai's next megaproject has been topped out.

Tower A of One Zaabeel – located beside Dubai's Trade Centre – has reached its highest structural point, developer Ithra said on Monday.

Topping out is a term used in construction that refers to when the last beam has been placed on top of a structure.

One Zaabeel consists of two towers connected by what's known as "The Link", which will host restaurants and an observation deck.

This latest addition to Dubai's glittering skyline has now moved a step closer to completion.

"One Zaabeel is a true reflection of Dubai’s spirit as it echoes the city’s message of unbridled ambition, innovative luxury and creative architecture," Issam Galadari, chief executive of Ithra Dubai, said.

"The iconic development today reached a pinnacle in construction with the top out of Towers A and B, bestowing a new wonder of architectural design, ultra-luxurious offerings and innovative construction onto the world map."

Tower A is 304 metres high and will house mainly offices and a resort, while the 241m Tower B consists of residential units over 57 storeys. Tower B was topped out earlier.

The Link – essentially a bridge between the two towers – was lifted into place last year and is about 100 metres above the ground.

It is expected that cladding and exterior works will finish on the development by the end of the year and attention will then turn to the interior.

The development also includes a One&Only resort. It was not revealed when One Zaabeel would open.

Who is Tim-Berners Lee?

Sir Tim Berners-Lee was born in London in a household of mathematicians and computer scientists. Both his mother, Mary Lee, and father, Conway, were early computer scientists who worked on the Ferranti 1 - the world's first commercially-available, general purpose digital computer. Sir Tim studied Physics at the University of Oxford and held a series of roles developing code and building software before moving to Switzerland to work for Cern, the European Particle Physics laboratory. He developed the worldwide web code as a side project in 1989 as a global information-sharing system. After releasing the first web code in 1991, Cern made it open and free for all to use. Sir Tim now campaigns for initiatives to make sure the web remains open and accessible to all.

A little about CVRL

Founded in 1985 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory (CVRL) is a government diagnostic centre that provides testing and research facilities to the UAE and neighbouring countries.

One of its main goals is to provide permanent treatment solutions for veterinary related diseases. 

The taxidermy centre was established 12 years ago and is headed by Dr Ulrich Wernery.
