Construction on a Dubai mega project has reached a milestone as a 7,700-tonne bridge is lifted into place at One Zaabeel

The 192-metre long first section of the steel structure, known as The Link, was lifted 100 metres into the air to begin bringing together the two buildings.

Once completed, the buildings will comprise luxury residences, a hotel, offices and retail spaces. The building will also be connected to Dubai World Trade Centre.

On Thursday, developer Ithra Dubai said the section took 12 days to lift into place. More than 110 jacks and heavy-duty strand jacks were used for the operation, calling for a concerted effort by a team of experts in construction, engineering and contracting.

The first section of the Link is now in its final position. The second lift of 816 tonnes is scheduled for October and will complete the Link to reach its final length of 226 metres.

One Zaabeel is comprised of two towers standing 304m and 241m tall.

The bridge is made of seven modules that are slid into place before they are lifted to their final position on the building.

It took eight months to slide the sections into place. A single node can weigh up to 1,742 tonnes.

The ambitious development is due to open to the public next year.
