DUBAI // A bogus electricity inspector who conned his way into a woman’s home and tried to have sex with her has been jailed for three months.
Egyptian H N, 36, locked the door, switched off the lights and started to touch Filipina A A and try to kiss her, a court heard.
He was detained when he went to the same woman’s door the following morning.
The victim said she was alone at her family home when the doorbell rang about 11am on September 22.
“He claimed to be working with the building’s maintenance team and that he was sent to check electricity connections,” she said.
But he turned off the lights, locked the door and started to talk in an inappropriate way, the woman told the court.
“He started telling me how much he liked my body and that he wanted to see me topless and have sex with me,” she said.
The Egyptian refused to leave, even when she warned him that her brother was on his way and he could kill him if he saw him there.
“He refused to leave and started touching my shoulders, kissing my hand and attempting to kiss me on the lips,” she said.
The victim took shelter on her balcony and threatened to scream for help if he did not leave at once.
“He left and when my brother arrived home, I told him what happened,” she said.
“He and my mother decided to call police but I stopped them because I did not know his identity.”
But H N returned to the family home the next morning and rang the doorbell.
“When I saw it was him through the peephole, I told my mother and we called police,” she said.
The Egyptian was arrested on the family’s doorstep.
He was convicted at Dubai Criminal Court of molestation and with entering the victim’s house without her approval.
He will be deported after completing his jail term.

When to go: You can climb Kili at any time of year, but the best months to ascend are January-February and September-October. Also good are July and August, if you’re tolerant of the colder weather that winter brings.
Do not underestimate the importance of kit. Even if you’re travelling at a relatively pleasant time, be geared up for the cold and the rain.

Hydrogen: Market potential
Hydrogen has an estimated $11 trillion market potential, according to Bank of America Securities and is expected to generate $2.5tn in direct revenues and $11tn of indirect infrastructure by 2050 as its production increases six-fold.
