ABU DHABI // The National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) yesterday launched a scheme to ensure that the country's most important business could continue on in the event of a disaster. The business continuity programme, announced yesterday at the Crisis and Emergency Management Conference, would ensure that in addition to responding to a crisis, NCEMA could also keep vital services and infrastructure functioning, said one of the agency's directors.
"After looking at the best codes worldwide, we found the British code to be most suitable for us," explained Mohammed al Jenaibi, director of quality and inspection in NCEMA. "The code will then be modified to fit the UAE's needs and we will have our own code and label." During a crisis, NCEMA's job is to co-ordinate responding agencies and assist with logistics. So if a hurricane struck the UAE, the first move would be to gather the forces involved in managing the disaster at NCEMA's National Operations Center.
