ABU DHABI // A State Security Court judge has warned people to check their cars for bullets before entering the country.
Chief Justice Shehab Al Hammadi issued the warning yesterday after sentencing three people, who were each found in possession of a single bullet, to three months in prison and fines of Dh15,000. The bullets were found inside their cars.
The court also heard yesterday from an American who was arrested after 18 bullets were found in the boot of his car after it was shipped from the United States.
He told the court he had taken a job with an oil company and asked a cargo company to pack his belongings at his home and send them to the UAE. The bullets found in the boot of his car were intended for use in his hunting trips.
He said the cargo company's workers must have been unaware the bullets were inside the boot.
He asked to be acquitted as he did not have criminal intent. The date for a verdict was not disclosed.
