Two men have denied breaking into four cars before stealing cash and valuable items, Dubai Criminal Court heard this week.
Both of the defendants, a student and a jobless man, do not have identification documents and are charged with theft and property damage.
The defendants, 25 and 20, broke into vehicles on the evening of February 3, 2016 in Al Qusais area, according to court documents.
No information was given about why the case has taken so long to proceed through courts.
The defendants allegedly used a screwdriver to break into vehicles before stealing mobile phones, wallets, identification documents and a total of Dh2,000 in cash.
Prosecutors discovered the stolen phones in shops, where they had been sold. The shop owners then identified the defendants, according to court documents.
The defendants denied the charges and asked the court to appoint a lawyer for them.
The next hearing will be on February 21.

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
