DUBAI // A labourer raped a woman after inviting her to dinner at Al Ghurair centre, then allowed his friend to rape her, a Dubai court was told this morning.
The 25-year-old KS met the 44-year-old Filipina victim in Al Mutatina area, where she lives, in September 2010, she testified.
They exchanged phone numbers and on October 2, two days after she met him, he invited her to dinner and picked her up from her home at 9pm, she said.
He drove towards Sheikh Zayed Road, but said he wanted to pick up something from his workplace before they headed to the restaurant, records show.
The woman told prosecutors that at that point, she felt scared and asked him to drop her off, but he refused. When she tried to get out of the moving vehicle, he stopped and threatened her.
The Pakistani defendant drove to a poorly lighted part of Jebil Ali Industrial Area and took the woman to a small room in a remote warehouse, where he turned on a pornographic DVD. There was a bed nearby, records show.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she refused to have sex with him, and in fear for her life, she gave in. But his friend, the 22-year-old EK, also Pakistani, was waiting there and she was forced to have sex with him, too.
After the assault, they took the woman home. She called police, but but no DNA evidence was found because the men used contraceptives, records said.
Prosecutors said the men confessed during the investigation, but when they appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this morning, they both denied the charges.
The next hearing will be on June 9, when a defense lawyer will be appointed.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
