DUBAI // More than 8,000 Tramadol pills were seized in an apartment in Al Qusais after a drug trafficker led officers to their hiding place, police said today.
A man identified as AR, from an unnamed Gulf country, was arrested during a raid on his home in Nad al Hamar on August 29 after the Dubai Police anti-narcotic department received a tip, officials said.
Police found 79 of the addictive prescription pills after searching AR's home. When questioned, AR said he had hidden more pills in a relative's home and led officers to a flat in Al Qusais, according to police.
Police found 8,200 Tramadol pills hidden in a plastic bag, officials said. AR also told police he had hidden 849 grams of hashish near a small grocery in Nad al Hamar.
The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
Prescription pills are being sold on the black market as the misuse of such drugs increases among the youth and university students, according to Dubai Police.
A strip of 10 Tramadols, a painkiller, is currently being sold on the black market for about Dh120.
