DUBAI // A policeman and his unemployed friends are accused of posing as CID officers and robbing a man of Dh26,000 and his Emirates ID and driving licence, a court heard.
NA, 23, an Emirati policeman, SA, 25, from Yemen, and a third defendant who remains at large, were charged with forceful robbery and impersonating CID officers.
The incident allegedly occurred on November 28, 2011.
The victim, OA, a 29-year-old Pakistani, told prosecutors that at 10.30pm he was at his residence in Ras Al Khor when the defendants knocked on his door. They claimed to be CID officers and demanded identification documents.
When OA took out his wallet, the men snatched it and NA slapped him on the face.
OA said he expressed his astonishment at their behaviour and told the men that Dubai Police do not beat people and that they should present IDs. When the men refused, OA started to scream: "Thieves, thieves."
The victim was then beaten with a rock by the man who escaped.
RA, 20, from Pakistan, testified that he heard the victim screaming but by the time he got to the man's room he the third defendant fleeing and OA bleeding from the head.
They called police and reported the incident.
Both defendants denied charges this morning and are scheduled to appear in court on July 22.
