DUBAI // A security guard who stole 38 empty beer barrels from a hotel has been sentenced by the Criminal Court to six months in prison.
PF, 42, from India, and two others stole the barrels from the airport Le Meridian hotel on January 15 this year.
The security guard, who worked for a company that supplied the hotel with the alcohol, admitted the theft after a hotel employee reported seeing him loading the barrels onto a lorry. Each barrel is worth between US$100-150.
AA, a hotel worker from Bangladesh, grew suspicious after noticing the warehouse guard lingering at the hotel after his shift ended.
"When I asked him for the delivery notebook he said it was in his car, but when he went to his car, instead of getting the notebook, he drove off," he said.
The security guard will be deported after completing his prison term.
