Rapist jailed for one year after Dubai attack

DUBAI // A man who raped a female friend who described him as "like a brother" was yesterday sentenced to a year in prison by the Criminal Court.

The woman had been friends with DR, a 34-year-old Iranian, over a long period and would often visit his home and sleep over. She told the court that she would rather kill herself than allow him to touch her.

On October 28, 2010, the man called her and invited her to a nightclub where he got drunk.

"When I arrived he started telling me he loved me and wanted me to be his for the night," she said. She told him he was like a brother to her and that she would never allow him to touch her but he continued telling her he loved her.

Both then left for his apartment in Tecom, where the man's cousin was also staying.

The man then asked to have sex with her, but when she refused he pushed her onto a bed and ripped her clothes off before raping her.

Afterwards, the woman washed and left the apartment, before informing the police the following morning. Police found the man's DNA traces on her clothes.

The man denied a rape charge before presiding judge Hamad Abdul Latif but was found guilty.

He will be deported after serving his jail term.
