DUBAI // A police corporal working at Dubai International Airport doctored the lost and found list so he could steal a traveller's iPhone, a court heard today.
Prosecutors told the Dubai Criminal Court that on February 19 the 27-year-old Emirati JA found two mobile phones - a Samsung and an iPhone - left in a box which holds travellers' belongings as they pass through security checks.
They said he added the Samsung device to the lost and found list, but did not add the Dh1,250 iPhone.
When a Nigerian passenger who owned both phones enquired at the lost and found desk he became puzzled when he was shown the Samsung device, but not the iPhone.
EA, a 32-year-old policeman, said that when the passenger informed him of the missing iPhone he checked the list but there was no mention of it.
The policeman became suspicious the following morning when he noticed that the iPhone had been added to the list.
Prosecutors said the corporal confessed during interrogation, but in court he denied charges of theft, forgery and using a forged document.
The next hearing will be on May 24.
