A man was sentenced to three months in jail then deportation for causing damage at an isolation centre in Dubai.
The Pakistani was taken to Al Warsan in Dubai’s Hind Humanitarian City in June as he had nowhere to isolate himself on arrival in the emirate.
Quarantine was part of official coronavirus safety measures at that time.
The 31-year-old said he became stressed and smashed up his room. He ripped off a wardrobe door and caused damage to the ceiling.
An Emirati lawyer for Dubai Health Authority called police on June 21 after learning of the outburst from the centre's security officers.
“The incident happened at Building A11, which was under the supervision of Dubai Police,” said the lawyer.
The man admitted damaging public property.
He told the judges he was sent to the centre because he had no place of his own to stay.
“I was emotionally distressed and lost control of my actions,” he said.
Labour dispute
The insured employee may still file an ILOE claim even if a labour dispute is ongoing post termination, but the insurer may suspend or reject payment, until the courts resolve the dispute, especially if the reason for termination is contested. The outcome of the labour court proceedings can directly affect eligibility.

It then dropped to an estimated 111,000 in the year to June 2020 when restrictions introduced during the pandemic limited travel and movement.
The total rose to 254,000 in the year to June 2021, followed by steep jumps to 634,000 in the year to June 2022 and 906,000 in the year to June 2023.
The latest available figure of 728,000 for the 12 months to June 2024 suggests levels are starting to decrease.
