Man forged passports, airport stamps, court hears



DUBAI// A 43-year-old businessman is charged with forging Dubai airport entry and exit stamps in his passport, which was also forged, a Dubai court heard this morning.

AS, from Azerbaijan, also faces charges of forging two other passports by changing the picture on one and the expiry date on the other. He will be referred to the Court of Misdemeanours on these charges, court records said.

According to records, AS forged the stamps and passports on June 8, 2010. He denied the charges.

TG, a Pakistani landlord, testified that in July, the defendant rented a one-room flat. AS stayed for four nights without paying the rent.

TG told prosecutors that he found a plastic bag belonging to the defendant that contained three passports. TG said Rafaa police later contacted him and informed him AS had arrested.

Police officers told prosecutors that the defendant confessed during investigations.

A verdict is expected on April 4.
