A traveller was caught with 34 kilograms of cannabis in three plastic bags at Dubai International Airport, a court heard.
The Nigerian man, 26, was arrested in Terminal 2 after arriving in the emirate on a visit visa on October 30 last year.
A customs inspector discovered the haul of drugs after carrying out a search of his luggage.
“He looked suspicious and I was tasked to search his luggage,” the inspector said.
“The luggage was made of three large plastic bags which all contained drugs.”
The search revealed 14.4kg of cannabis in one bag, 13.4kg in another and 6.6kg in the third.
During questioning, the man said he did not know what the substance he was carrying was and that he had been asked by a third party to deliver it to a man in Dubai.
At Dubai Criminal Court, he denied a charge of possessing and smuggling drugs with intent to sell.
A verdict is due to be passed on February 28.
