DUBAI // A woman who lured her compatriot to the country and forced her into prostitution had her two-and-a-half-year-prison sentence upheld by the Appeals Court today.
SA, 20, from Bangladesh, promised her 30-year-old countrywoman a job as a tailor, saying she would be paid a Dh2,000 monthly salary, but when the woman arrived in Dubai on March 20 last year she was locked in an apartment in Hor Al Anz and told she would have to prostitute herself instead.
She escaped through a window two days later when the brothel owners were out, but lost her balance and fell. Passersby called the emergency services and she was taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment. The police then learnt of her ordeal.
SA was sentenced to two years for human trafficking and a further six months for prostitution and running a brothel. The Appeals Court upheld both sentences.
She will be deported after the completion of her prison term.
