Farm worker allegedly stole gold-plated weapons from Dubai boss in revenge bid

DUBAI // A farm worker stole a gold-plated sword and dagger worth half a million dirhams to gain revenge on his employer who prevented him from inviting his friends over, a court was told yesterday.

The worker waited until his boss was away before breaking into the farmhouse with two colleagues on April 4 this year, stealing the weapons and burying them under a tree.

When the owner returned he found the glass cases that contained the weapons had been smashed so he called police.

When officers arrived at the farm in Al Marmoum the three workers denied involvement, but their fingerprints were found at the scene.

Policeman S?S, 30, told the Criminal Court that when confronted with the fingerprints one of the workers confessed that he had been offered Dh10,000 to take part in the burglary.

“He also confirmed to me that the reason behind the theft was that the farm’s owner did not allow his colleague to bring his friends to the farm,” the officer said. The worker told him the stolen weapons were buried under a tree in the farm.

In court, A M, 37, from Bangladesh, and his two co-workers A?A, 23, also Bangladeshi, and W?A, 26, from Pakistan, all denied charges of theft.

When asked why he had confessed, A?A said he had been tortured for seven days.

A verdict is expected on July 31.
