DUBAI // A restaurant delivery worker who tried to rape a customer after delivering her breakfast, has been sentenced to three years in prison.
The Dubai Criminal Court also ordered that RW, a 25-year-old Syrian chef, be deported after completing his prison term.
He was delivering a meal to a married woman in Mirdiff on the morning of May 27 when the woman's cat ran out of her apartment.
The delivery man gave chase to the cat and caught it before he stepped inside the woman's house to return the animal.
He then began to chase the woman around and attacked her before throwing her on the bed and trying to rape her. He tried to hug and kiss her and put his hand over her mouth to muffle her screams, but she managed to escape and reported the attack to police.
When police went to the Syrian restaurant in Al Ittihad Mall where the man worked, he told arresting officers that he had been seduced by the woman's revealing clothes.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States.
