Covid-19 rule-breakers accuse Dubai flight attendant of supplying drugs

The arrest of two men for breaching Covid-19 safety measures in Dubai landed a flight attendant in court on drugs charges.

Officers from Dubai Police's bicycle patrol spotted the men in the Jumeirah Beach Residence area in June. Stay-home rules were in place at the time and they did not have permits to be outside.

After approaching the pair, police suspected they were under the influence of drugs.

"They weren't drunk, so we searched them and contacted the anti-narcotics department after we found a syringe and drugs in their possession," said one of the officers.

Both men were taken to Al Barsha Police Station where urine samples showed they used crystal meth.

During questioning, they said they got the drugs from an airline worker.

After obtaining an arrest warrant from prosecutors the following day, officers found the Spanish flight attendant sleeping at his Sheikh Zayed Road apartment.

No drugs were found on the man or inside his apartment and car.

His urine sample came back clean but the two men insisted he provided them with the drugs.

He was charged with facilitating drug consumption at Dubai Criminal Court, which he denied.

A verdict is due to be passed on February 7.
