DUBAI // A dispute between two Emiratis led to one of them being ambushed by brothers with iron bars, breaking his arm and leaving him partially disabled, a court was told.
The rented car driven by victim BE, 28, was also damaged by the brothers before the incident was spotted by a passing police patrol car, the Dubai Criminal Court was told.
BE was called by MM, 20, the brother of 26-year-old AM, whom the dispute was with, and was asked to meet and talk about the feud. The pair met in the Al Safa area on November 11 last year and started to discuss the problem. Suddenly, MM starting attacking BE, who was carrying a knife, and, within seconds, AM turned up with metal bars and the brothers proceeded to beat BE on the back, chest, legs and head.
Both defendants ran away when they saw the police car approaching, while BE was taken to Rashid Hospital.
The brothers were charged with assault that left BE with three per cent permanent disability and with deliberately damaging another's property.
Prosecutors charged BE with assaulting MM with a knife, though details of his attack were not stated in records.
The three deny the charges.
Emirati policeman AA, 28, testified that he was in the patrol car when he saw the assault. "We rushed to see the man lying on the floor in a pool of blood," said the officer, who noted that the metal bars were seized.
The next hearing will be on November 11.
