A British man jailed for a booze-fuelled attack on two police officers in Dubai has lost a bid to have the verdict overturned.
The tourist was initially sentenced to a year behind bars after headbutting the two cops as they attempted to take him into custody.
The officers had been called out to Jumeirah Beach Road at about 3am on May 3 of last year following reports of a disturbance involving the defendant.
Dubai Criminal Court heard that the policemen found the 26-year-old in a drunken state.
“We identified ourselves before attempting to take him in the police car to Al Barsha police station,” said one of the officers, 23.
When police arrived at the station, the handcuffed offender headbutted both officers before being restrained.
The man admitted he had been drinking alcohol prior to the incident when questioned by police.
He said he could not recall carrying out the assault due to his level of intoxication.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison at a hearing held in his absence last July.
The sentence was subsequently reduced to three months on appeal.
The Briton made a further appeal for the jail term to be quashed, but was unsuccessful.
He will be deported once he has served his sentence.
