It’s generally accepted that Pete Townshend was the first rock star to smash up his guitar, starting a trend that continues to this very day. With Townshend and The Who coming to Abu Dhabi in November, this image by staff photographer Sarah Dea of Luke Steele from the Australian group Empire of the Sun destroying his guitar at the band’s recent concert at Sandance in Dubai seems to bring the rebellious act full circle.
