Burst pipeline snarls peak-hour traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road

DUBAI // A sewage pipeline burst on Tuesday afternoon on Sheikh Zayed Road, snarling traffic during rush hour.

According to Dubai Police, the pipeline, located near the Emaar buildings in The Greens, caused water to pour onto the hard shoulder of Sheikh Zayed road from Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

The incident occurred just before rush hour at about 3.45pm.

A Dubai Police spokesman said that the water pouring into the street resulted in severe traffic jams on Sheikh Zayed Road for several hours.

It is not known what caused the pipeline to burst.

It is also unclear if police had to shut down any lanes to remove the water.

Traffic started to flow again at around 8 pm.
