DUBAI// A 10-year-old British girl was sexually assaulted by a cleaner at a golf club as her family ate lunch, a Dubai court heard.
The Bangladeshi defendant T H, 33, denied the charge of molestation when he appeared at the criminal court on Monday.
Prosecutors said that on February 16 this year, the girl was eating lunch with her family after they had played golf.
“It was nearly 4pm and my daughter finished her lunch and headed to the toilets,” said the girl’s mother.
“She returned a few minutes later and said she was feeling bad. I asked her why and she said a cleaner tried to hug her.
“I didn’t give the matter much attention because I thought he wanted to hug her like his daughter.”
She said when they left the club, her daughter revealed more details and they reported the matter to the club’s manager and the police.
The girl told prosecutors that when she was in the toilets the defendant asked her to come and see his room, but she refused.
She said he dragged her into a room where he molested her.
“I pushed him away and opened the door then ran out,” she said.
When police questioned the man, he denied the accusation saying he did not touch her.
A verdict is expected on April 27.
