Boy rescued after falling into well in Fujairah

FUJAIRAH // An eight-year-old boy was rescued from a well by police on Sunday.

Police were called to Al Bidya in Fujairah after a man heard cries for help coming from the well at 5pm.

Once police arrived, First Sergeant Ali Al Khuzaimi rappelled down the well and rescued the child, with the help of an Emirati member of the public.

The child was taken to hospital and was found uninjured. It is not clear how far the boy fell down the 20-metre well.

The child’s mother and the house owner were summoned for questioning, said Lt ColSaif Al Zahmi, head of the Dibba Police Directorate.

Brig Gen Humaid Al Yamahi, director general of Police Operations, urged parents to be more vigilant towards their children and reminded residents that all wells must be covered.

He also thanked those who helped to rescue the child.
