The body of a missing 5-year-old Emirati girl was found in the drainage duct of her villa in Al Rawdha, Ajman, on Monday night, according to local reports.
The family reported the girl, Amal, missing to police on Sunday after she had disappeared from the backyard of her home where she had been playing.
The following day, a family member saw her body in the drain. The civil defence were called and an emergency team worked to retrieve the remains.
"The details of the case began when the 21-year-old brother of the girl, PHB, filed a report at the Hamidiya police station about the disappearance of Amal from the house when the family went out to watch the rain at 6pm," Lt Col Yehia Al Matrooshi said.
Lt Col Al Matrooshi said the girl's brother reported that the family had raised the cover of the drainage hole when it rained and returned the cover when the rain stopped, but did not notice the girl's body.
The body has been taken to forensic laboratory for autopsy and to determine the cause of the death.
