The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt have issued a statement objecting to Qatar hosting the 140th assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union next week.
The four countries submitted their objection to the General Secretariat of the IPU, during the 139th General Assembly held in Geneva. The next meeting is scheduled to be held in Doha from April 6 to 10.
They said that they will boycott the meeting unless Qatar responds to their demand to cease its support for terrorism and its intervention in the internal affairs of countries of the region.
The four countries claim Qatar has not yet responded to these demands.
Transport, trade and diplomatic ties were cut with Qatar in 2017, after the four countries — who refer to themselves as the Anti-Terror Quarter — accused the country of hosting and funding terror groups.
The IPU is made up of national parliaments from around the world and is financed primarily by the public funds of members.
