Arab League picks Emirati doctor as ambassador for women and children

The Emirati physician Dr Maryam Matar has been selected as ambassador of goodwill for women and children in the Arab world.

She was picked by the Arab League's Scientific and Humanitarian Development Programme of the Arab Women Organisation.

Among other things, Dr Matar founded the Community Development Authority in 2008 and created the country's Down's Syndrome Association.

She is currently completing the last year of her PhD in genetic diseases at a Japanese university, according to the state news agency Wam.
