Alleged attacker of American University of Sharjah imam to get psychiatric help

SHARJAH // The man accused of stabbing the American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) imam last week has been moved to a hospital outside the emirate to receive psychiatric treatment.

The former AUS student, identified as Ahmad, 26, a Canadian of Palestinian descent, has been transferred from the Kuwait Hospital to Obaidallah Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah after receiving treatment for injuries to his hands.

“We have completed all our treatment and done the plastic surgery, and now the patient needs psychiatric and neurological treatment,” said Dr Yousef Al Serkal, director general of Kuwaiti Hospital.

“We don’t have a psychiatric centre here and this is why we referred him to Ras Al Khaimah.”

Brig Abdullah Al Dukhan, the deputy commander in chief of Sharjah Police, said Ahmad was hurt after cutting his hands on the knife he allegedly used to stab Diaa Al Suwaidan in the shoulder.

Brig Al Dukhan said officers were waiting for Ahmad to fully recover before questioning him about the incident.

The imam said last week that he forgave his attacker and was praying for his full recovery.

WHAT IS A BLACK HOLE?

1. Black holes are objects whose gravity is so strong not even light can escape their pull

5. Astronomers believe that when the universe was very young, black holes affected how galaxies formed
