Abu Dhabi reopens Al Gurm Corniche overlooking the city's mangroves

Abu Dhabi completed a major renovation of a much-loved Corniche overlooking the city's Mangrove National Park.

A refreshed Al Gurm Corniche includes 3.5 kilometres of shaded walkways and cycling tracks, exercise areas and parking for more than 300 cars.

Three exercise platforms, facilities for kayak tours and a heritage area that tells the history of Abu Dhabi are also part of the upgrade.

Several of the older concrete canopies that were feature of the park on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street were also been kept.

Abu Dhabi Municipality oversaw the project, which follows the opening two weeks ago of the adjacent Dolphin Park.

The park, distinguished by its dolphin fountains, was built about 30 years ago, and also overlooks the mangroves.

The overhaul included renovated playgrounds, rejuvenated fountains and refreshed greenery.

In 2019, major roadworks started to widen Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, which is one of Abu Dhabi's main arteries, connecting to the E11 to Dubai.

The Al Gurm Corniche walkway, which connects Dolphin Park to the Eastern Mangroves Hotel, has been closed off to walkers since then.
