Abu Dhabi Municipality is cracking down on health and sanitation offences, issuing citations for nearly 4,500 infractions in the first three months of this year.
The municipality has regular campaigns to raise public awareness about good health practices. It issued more than 2,100 citations related to throwing waste in non-designated places, 84 elating to the leakage of laundry and air conditioner water on the streets and 17 to rubbish scavengers
It also issued 1,328 citations for parking on pavements, 339 or throwing cigarette ends into the street, 29 for barbecuing in non-designated areas, 124 for spitting in public, 22 for drying laundry on balconies and 201 for washing cars in public areas.
Through these campaigns, the municipality is keen to make people aware of the risks of unhealthy actions.
A series of awareness lectures was held with public health inspectors discussing civilised ways of coping with offences and community members.
