ABU DHABI // Four men who doused a police tow truck in fuel and set it on fire have been sentenced to one year in prison.
The case began when one of the men was caught by a police patrol doing 360-degree spins in his car, which also did not have any number plates.
He was ordered to stop, but managed to outrun the police in a chase.
The motorist and three other defendants went to a gas station and filled a bottle with petrol.
As they returned to where his car was parked, they found a police tow truck had arrived to take it away.
So, they sprayed flammable material on the truck and set it on fire.
A policeman at the scene tried to make an arrest, but he was attacked.
The Criminal Court also sentenced the first defendant to an additional year for attacking the policeman, a month for stunt driving, a month for driving a car without number plates and six months for not obeying police orders.
The fourth defendant was sentenced to an additional year for covering his car’s number plate on the back.
The cars of the first and second defendants will be confiscated.

Checks continue
A High Court judge issued an interim order on Friday suspending a decision by Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots to direct a stop to Brexit agri-food checks at Northern Ireland ports.
Mr Justice Colton said he was making the temporary direction until a judicial review of the minister's unilateral action this week to order a halt to port checks that are required under the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Civil servants have yet to implement the instruction, pending legal clarity on their obligations, and checks are continuing.
