A vast suspended bridge connecting the two towers of a Dubai mega project has been constructed and will be put in its final position high above the ground by the end of the year.
The 7,100 tonne steel structure, known as The Link, will be lifted 100 metres into the air to bring together the striking One Za’abeel attraction.
Once completed, the world's largest cantiveler structure will boast stunning panoramic views as well as luxury residences, a hotel, offices and retail spaces, and will be connected to the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The ambitious development is due to open to the public next year.
It is being spearheaded by real estate developer Ithra Dubai and is comprised of two towers standing 304m and 241m high.
The bridge is made of seven modules that are slid into place before they are lifted to their final position on the building.
It took eight months to slide the sections into place. A single node can weigh up to 1,742 tonnes.
Each node was built remotely to reduce on-site welding.
A cheaper choice
Vanuatu: $130,000

- The nearest international airport to the start of the Chuysky Trakt is in Novosibirsk. Emirates (www.emirates.com) offer codeshare flights with S7 Airlines (www.s7.ru) via Moscow for US$5,300 (Dh19,467) return including taxes. Cheaper flights are available on Flydubai and Air Astana or Aeroflot combination, flying via Astana in Kazakhstan or Moscow. Economy class tickets are available for US$650 (Dh2,400).

- The transport Minibuses run along the Chuysky Trakt but if you want to stop for sightseeing, hire a taxi from Gorno-Altaisk for about US$100 (Dh360) a day.
