Motorists in Sharjah will have their traffic fines slashed by half to mark the police force's golden jubilee.

Sharjah Police said that drivers who flouted road rules will be able to pay just 50 per cent of their fines between October 19 and December 31 using the Ministry of Interior smartphone application.

During the two and a half month discount period, motorists will also be able to have any black points on their licences cancelled, but must visit the Sharjah Traffic Department to take advantage of that service.

The wiping of black points only applies to those earned before October 18.

Brig Gen Saif Al Shamsi, chief of Sharjah Police, issued the decree as part of the force's 50 year anniversary celebrations.
