President Sheikh Mohamed on Sunday visited Capt Mohammed Al Nuaimi at Zayed Military Hospital, where the officer is receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a terrorist attack in Somalia.
The incident killed four members of the UAE Armed Forces who were providing training to Somali forces. An officer from the Bahrain Defence Force was also killed in the attack.
Col Mohamed Al Mansouri, staff warrant officer Khalifa Al Balushi, staff warrant officer Mohamed Al Shamsi and Cpl Suleiman Al Shehh were the UAE servicemen killed in the attack. Their bodies were repatriated to Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi last month.
Sheikh Mohamed on Sunday wished Capt Al Nuaimi a quick recovery and was briefed by doctors on the progress of his treatment.
Sheikh Mohamed spoke of the resilient spirit and exceptional morale of members of the armed forces, state news agency Wam reported.
Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied by senior officials including Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, adviser for Special Affairs at the Presidential Court; Maj Gen Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun, deputy chief of staff of the UAE Armed Forces.
Last month, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, paid tribute to the men who lost their lives in the attack.
“Mercy to the martyrs of the Emirates as they perform their duties in maintaining security and stability wherever they are,” Sheikh Mohammed wrote on X. “Pride and glory go to the UAE as it performs its duties in establishing peace and security in the region and the world for the good of humanity.”
