Dubai Police seized 94 vehicles and motorcycles for dangerous driving during the UAE Union Day long weekend.
The force said the drivers engaged in hazardous and reckless traffic behaviour in Al Ruwayyah, Jumeirah and other residential areas celebrating the country's 52nd Union Day.
“The offenders were involved in reckless driving, road stunts, causing disturbances in the emirate, unauthorised parades and gatherings, non-compliance with traffic rules, and disobeying police instructions,” Maj Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of Dubai Police's traffic department, said.
Some offenders performed dangerous stunts on roads and obstructed traffic, while others had illegally modified their cars to make them noisier, he added.
In a video shared by Dubai Police, drivers are seen drifting – skidding sideways – in their cars while others perform doughnuts – spinning their cars in circles – in the middle of the road.
Other violations included spraying silly string into cars, passengers hanging out of windows and sunroofs, and vehicles having unauthorised paint jobs and obscured licence plates.
Maj Gen Mazrouei said drivers engaged in reckless stunts and played loud music at desert camps, which caused disruption.
He confirmed that 94 vehicles and motorbikes were seized and 4,420 dangerous violations were recorded.
Offenders will have to pay fines of up to Dh50,000 to have their impounded cars released.
Maj Gen Mazrouei urged parents to monitor their children's driving behaviour to prevent reckless and dangerous acts.
He stressed that parental advice would help to reduce serious traffic accidents, fatalities and severe injuries.

Basquiat in Abu Dhabi
One of Basquiat’s paintings, the vibrant Cabra (1981–82), now hangs in Louvre Abu Dhabi temporarily, on loan from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
The latter museum is not open physically, but has assembled a collection and puts together a series of events called Talking Art, such as this discussion, moderated by writer Chaedria LaBouvier.
It's something of a Basquiat season in Abu Dhabi at the moment. Last week, The Radiant Child, a documentary on Basquiat was shown at Manarat Al Saadiyat, and tonight (April 18) the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is throwing the re-creation of a party tonight, of the legendary Canal Zone party thrown in 1979, which epitomised the collaborative scene of the time. It was at Canal Zone that Basquiat met prominent members of the art world and moved from unknown graffiti artist into someone in the spotlight.
“We’ve invited local resident arists, we’ll have spray cans at the ready,” says curator Maisa Al Qassemi of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

1 The kind of water athletes drink is important. Gwilym Hooson, a 28-year-old British performer who is currently recovering from knee surgery, found that out when the company was still in Studio City, training for 12 hours a day. “The physio team was like: ‘Why is everyone getting cramps?’ And then they realised we had to add salt and sugar to the water,” he says.
