One man has died after his car and a lorry collided and burst into flames in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Abu Dhabi Police said emergency crews attended the scene of the accident on Sweihan Road, near Al Shamkha Bridge.
Police did not say if the man died on the spot or later at hospital.
“The operations room received a report of the accident that involved a lorry and a car at 8am on Tuesday,” said the force.
Motorists were directed to alternative routes after police closed the road to tackle the fire.
“Firefighting operations continued until 11am on Tuesday and civil defence teams have now begun cooling operations which are still ongoing,” the force said.
It added that the road was still closed, with teams clearing debris, and urged motorists to continue taking alternative routes.
It said motorists heading from Sweihan to Abu Dhabi can take Al Falah bridge and pass through Al Falah residential area.
Those driving to the Sweihan area are advised to take Al Shamkha Bridge towards Al Riyadh bridge and exit across Al Falah bridge.
