Ras Al Khaimah Police issued more than 2,000 traffic fines in two weeks after launching a traffic safety campaign in January.
The force said the first two weeks of its scheme, which runs until the end of the month, saw 2,245 fines being issued against motorists for flouting traffic laws.
“It's imperative that we implement the strategy of the country’s ministry of interior that aims to boost road safety, bring down the number of accidents and reduce injuries and fatalities,” said Maj Gen Ali Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police.
He urged motorists to follow traffic rules as the campaign continues to monitor the emirate’s roads.
“We will not tolerate any law breaking drivers,” said Lt Col Salim Bu Ruqaibah, head of RAK traffic police.
“During the first two weeks of the traffic campaign, 1,185 fines were issued against cars and 1,060 against motor bikes, bicycles and e-scooters.”
Extra patrols have been deployed across the emirate to detect violations and raise awareness of the UAE’s traffic strategy.
The force said it will launch regular inspections and awareness campaigns to make sure drivers adhere to traffic laws.

Muslim Council of Elders condemns terrorism on religious sites
The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the criminal attacks on religious sites in Britain.
It firmly rejected “acts of terrorism, which constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of houses of worship”.
“Attacking places of worship is a form of terrorism and extremism that threatens peace and stability within societies,” it said.
The council also warned against the rise of hate speech, racism, extremism and Islamophobia. It urged the international community to join efforts to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Some of Darwish's last words

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
