It's been a sticky start to the long weekend in the UAE, as humidity rose overnight on Wednesday, leading to patchy fog in places.

Mist and fog settled over internal areas in the east and west overnight, affecting visibility.

That is expected to clear by 9am, leaving a fair to partly cloudy day that will be hazy at times.

Temperatures will be in the mid-30s and winds will be light to moderate, which could become gusty, blowing dust. Humidity stood at around 75 per cent, an AccuWeather forecast said.

Conditions at sea will be moderate, becoming rough by noon in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Gulf of Oman.

Humidity will return overnight, raising the risk of fog or mist over some eastern internal areas.

Temperatures to hover in the 30s this weekend

Temperatures will fall a little on Friday, with highs of 34°C in Abu Dhabi and 35°C in Dubai and Al Ain.

Low clouds could appear in the east. Winds will be light to moderate, which will become gusty at times, blowing dust during the daytime.

The sea will be rough to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Sea of Oman.

Saturday will be another fair to partly cloudy day, with some low clouds over some coastal and western areas.

Temperatures will creep up slightly, with highs of 36°C in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain. Winds will be light to moderate, becoming gusty at times, and conditions in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman will be calm.

Humidity will rise overnight, raising the risk of the probability of fog or mist formation over some western internal areas early on Sunday.

Why are asylum seekers being housed in hotels?

The number of asylum applications in the UK has reached a new record high, driven by those illegally entering the country in small boats crossing the English Channel.

A total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025, the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001.

Asylum seekers and their families can be housed in temporary accommodation while their claim is assessed.

The Home Office provides the accommodation, meaning asylum seekers cannot choose where they live.

When there is not enough housing, the Home Office can move people to hotels or large sites like former military bases.
