Abu Dhabi has confirmed entry rules for vaccinated people for several public places before the new Covid-19 safety measures come into operation this month.
From Friday, August 20, only people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 will be allowed to enter some venues in the capital, it said.
A third booster dose will eventually be required to ensure continued access to those places, though a grace period will initially be in place.
Only fully immunised people with “green status” on the emirate’s Covid-19 safety app, Al Hosn, will be admitted to restaurants, cafes, malls and shops.
The list also includes gyms, sports centres, health clubs, resorts, museums, galleries and theme parks, as well as universities, colleges, nurseries and schools.
Green status is displayed on the app after a negative PCR test result. It remains valid for 30 days.
Entry is also allowed for those exempted from vaccination with green status on Al Hosn app, which appears after a negative PCR test result and lasts for a week.
Children under the age of 16, whose status will appear as green on the app without a test, will also be allowed to enter the venues on the list.
Unvaccinated people and those with Al Hosn “grey status", which reflects an expired PCR test result, are prohibited from entering such places.
The committee also announced that those with a new residency permit will have a grace period of 60 days in which to be immunised.
The rules on entry to public places also apply to visitors and tourists who have uploaded vaccine certificates on to the app.
Booster dose required to maintain long-term green status
A booster dose of a Covid-19 vaccine must be taken six months after the second dose to maintain green status.
“A grace period of 30 days is given to all those who have taken their second dose more than six months ago, before their status will turn grey on 20 September. Participants in vaccine trials are exempt from needing a booster dose,” the committee said.
Members of the public were urged to be vaccinated against Covid-19 if eligible to do so to aid the UAE’s recovery from the pandemic.

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.

The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
